Experts in Adult and Teen Acne
Acne is a skin condition most often associated with adolescence, but is also known to occur in 30-40% of adults. A number of factors are known to cause acne including excess oil production, clogging of pours, bacteria and hormones. At any age, the effects of acne can lead to scarring and low self esteem. Fortunately Aqua has many new advancements proven to be effective in combating this often stubborn condition.
How does Acne occur?
Acne results when the skins’ sebaceous glands plug the pores of the skin with ‘sebum’ created by an overproduction of oil. When plugged, pores can turn into white or blackheads known as comedones, and become inflamed. If left untreated, inflammation can lead to deep lumps on the skin, or cystic acne if lumps become infected.
Aqua offers many advancements in the treatment of acne lesions, and the changes associated with them.
Ideal Treatment Area(s)
Acne occurs most commonly the face, but may also affect the neck, chest, back, shoulders, scalp, and upper arms.
Treatment Options
The following treatments offer gradual improvement
- Medical grade topical cosmeseuticals and microdermabrasion to treat comedones
- IPL therapy for red and inflamed lesions to kill bacteria
- PDT (Photodynamic therapy) with Levulan for more severe cases and cystic acne
Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is a highly effective, non-invasive treatment involving a photosensitizing agent activated by a special light to gradually improve acne over several treatments.
Intense pulsed light (IPL) (link to IPL page) activates the photosensitizing agent to target and destroy cells with acne bacteria. At the same time, the treatment offers improvements to sun damaged skin, and also reduces pore sizes to further prevent acne from returning.
